The difficult road to the 35th jubilee of the PZD - 28.09.2016

In May 1981 the Parliament passed a new law on workers allotment gardens (the POD) worked out through the experience of the gardening movement in Poland. At the end of June 1981 the  Congress of the Polish Allotment Federation (the PZD), which was established by that law, was held. That's how started the 35th anniversary of the PZD, which this year we celebrate and appreciate.

The Open Program Social Development of the Family Allotment Gardens - 28.04.2016

Apple Books Border iconFor the Polish Allotment Federation (the PZD)  the development of the family allotment gardens (RODs) is a priority. For this purpose the PZD incessantly invests in their infrastructures. The gardens have to be useful not only for allotment gardeners. They should be also the places of an integration and a rest for the local community. The allotment gardeners have organized many events and feasts for children and seniors for years, in which also locals residents take part. The National Council of the PZD has noticed strong need for development and opening RODs to the local community and developed and adopted the Open Program Social Development of the Family Allotment Gardens which gives directions in which the gardens should develop themselves for the local community.

Exemplary Plot of the Year – the national competition of the Polish Allotment Federation - 22.01.2016

Every Year The Polish Allotment Federation (the PZD) announces two nationwide competitions, the "Family Allotment Garden of the Year" and the "Exemplary Plot of the Year". Individual allotment gardeners can take part in the "Exemplary Plot of the Year" competition and present the beauty, development and organic crops on their plots.

The national competition of the Polish Allotment Federation “Family Allotment Garden of the Year” - 07.01.2016

Every year The National Council of the Polish Allotment Federation (the PZD) organizes the national competition which is called “Family Allotment Garden of the Year”. It is tradition which still exists in life of allotment gardens and  the Polish Allotment Gardens Federation. It is also a perfect occasion to praise achievements and beauty of the allotment gardens. This competition is popular among the allotment gardeners and draws attention of allotment gardening supporters.

Does the world face ecological disaster? - 30.12.2015

Global warming troubles scientists and politicians from around the world. In order to develop cooperation that would stop this dangerous phenomenon, COP21 United Nations conference on climate change took place in Paris between November 20th - December 11th 2015. Its meaning is a breakthrough because for the first time in the history delegates from 195 countries agreed on common actions in order to save the climate. It is also a signal that we should take special care of green areas.

Europe puts emphasis on the development of allotment gardens - 23.12.2015

With the progressive urbanization and environmental degradation the need for the existence of family allotment gardens in towns and cities is becoming increasingly clear. It was recognized by the authorities of Barcelona and the Swedish city of Växjö, which have put emphasis on the development and promotion of allotment gardens.

It was the „True Victory of Democracy” - 02.09.2015

„Long live the Green Republic of Poland!- it`s been so lovely and proud thing to say for so many years”, in these words Eugeniusz Kondracki, President of the Polish Allotment Gardens Federation (PZD), greeted the participants of the 56. National Day of the Allotment Gardener. This event has gathered over 700 allotment gardeners from various parts of Poland, including distinguished guests such as the Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, Maciej Grabowski (the Minister of the Environment) and parliamentarians of all parties.

Celebration of allotment democracy - 24.07.2015

On 2nd – 3rd July 2015 in Warsaw 4707 allotment gardens representatives participated in the XII National Congress of Delegates of the Polish Allotment Gardens Federation (PZD). Deliberations were held under the slogan "Together with the will of allotment gardeners" which emphasized the uniqueness of this Congress, which was the crowning achievement of exceptionally hard work of activists of the PZD in the past four years. The Congress opened a new chapter for all allotment gardeners, allotments and the PZD.

New law protecting allotment sheds went into effect on the 30th April 2015! - 15.07.2015

The new law amends the Building Act and other acts concerning construction on allotments. The adoption of this law, which protects 900 thousand allotment sheds from being demolished, is unquestionable success of the Polish Allotment Gardens Federation (PZD) and hundreds of thousands of allotment gardeners, whose support enabled bringing to Parliament a citizens draft law.

Local Government elections in Poland - 11.02.2015

In Poland every four years citizens elect local authorities to communes, districts, voivodships and municipalities. It is a vital process having a significant influence on further cooperation between citizens and the chosen local governmental bodies. The last voting for local government were held in Poland in November 2014.

Statutory meeting in allotment gardens in Poland - 10.02.2015

In Poland, until the end of 2013, every gardener was by law a member of the Polish Allotment Gardens Federation (PZD). In 2012 the Constitutional Court ruled that the freedom of association of citizens cannot be limited and stated that the new law, which was going to be enacted by parliament, must provide the ability to govern gardens by other associations than the PZD. Following the decision of the Constitutional Court, the new Act of allotment gardens, which was enacted by the Parliament on 13th December 2013, obligated the PZD to organize statutory meetings in every allotment garden, where the gardeners would decide, whether to remain in the structures of the PZD or give the management of theirs gardens to a new association, which had to be chosen at this meeting.

Polish Allotment Gardeners in the Media What Works and What to Avoid - 04.09.2014

Polish Alotment Garden Federation is very active in media. We have our own publishing, but also we cooperate with national and local media. For English - speaking allotment gardens holders - 25.06.2014

Polish allotment gardens federation is a prosperous organization. It associates one million allotmenteers, who exploit allotment gardens in five thousand Polish gardens. Allotmenteers from whole Europe are interested in problems, which affect Polish allotment gardens federation and allotmenteers. Recently, European allotmenteers supported new allotment gardens law, which ensures existence of Polish gardens. Despite all the struggle, our endavour ended up with a great success. In order to inform allotment gardens holders from whole Europe about out effective actions, we decided to start English part of our website. We will regularly publish texts depicting the most important events in Polish allotment gardens federation and allotment gardens. To begin with, we present articles showing the most important events, which were especially interesting for the Polish allotmenteers. We will regularly publish new English – language materials. We encourage to keep abreast of latest news from our gardens.

Polish allotment gardens have been saved! - 25.06.2014

After many months of struggle, the Polish allotment gardeners have been successful in ensuring that the parliament has passed a new law, which ensures the existence and development of allotment gardening in Poland. This success is all the more greater, that this law is the brainchild of the gardeners themselves who have prepared and submitted it to the Parliament as a citizens draft law, supported by the signatures of more than 924.000 Polish citizens.

The horticulture production in the allotment gardens - 24.06.2014

The horticulture production coming from the allotments garden is difficult to estimate, but probably it is still no less that 10% of total production of fruits and vegetables in Poland.

Allotment gardens in the cities nowadays and in the future – challenges and functions - 23.06.2014

The paper was presented by president of Polish allotment gardens federation Eugeniusz Kondracki during seminar at Warsaw University of Life Science, dedicated to future of allotment gardens in cities. Audience had occasion to hear out lectures given by the best experts and to take part in discussion. President Kondracki described evolution of allotment gardening movement in Poland and presented perspectives of its further development.
